Education seekers require competent and experienced individuals with the recommendable educational background. Central Board of Secondary-Education conducts annual Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) with an aim of providing a standard and a pool of quality teachers in a selection process. C TET certificate is the lowest qualification requirement for one to get a teaching job. A holder of C TET certificate can apply to any Central Government teaching since without it, one cannot apply.
C TET application and registration is done online where potential candidates are vetted. Once they pass the set criteria they can proceed with the application set by CBSE.
Pattern of the Exam
Participating candidates take a 150 multi-choice question exam scheduled for two and a half hours. The C TET is classified into two papers where Paper-1 tests on child development and pedagogy. The main aim of this test is to focus on the eligibility of one to teach children from the ages of 6-11. The paper also focuses the psychology of teaching, diversity in teaching as well as interacting with students, attributes and how effective one can facilitate the learning environment. Paper 2 is to test the eligibility of a tutor in teaching learners from age 11-14 with the same focus as paper 1.
Structure of the CTET Papers
Both papers are divided into five sections. Each section carries 30- questions each having a maximum of 30 marks totaling to 150 marks. Part two has three categories; a mathematics and science teacher, social studies and social science teacher and lastly mathematics and science teacher with an option of social studies or social science.
How Often CTET Exam is Conducted
CBSE follows guidelines laid down by the ministry of human resources development in conducting the C TET. The teacher eligibility test is conducted twice a year but this is speculated to change to once a year. The tests are done across 92 cities across 36 states /UT in India.
Importance of Ctet Exam
For one to be issued with the eligibility certificate, one has to secure a total percentage of 60% or higher. The chances of qualifying for the test is very low as only 13% or less of the total applicants make the cut. So passing the C TET and having the certificate guarantees for a higher chance of securing a job. Speaking of jobs, the minimum qualification entry for a government or state teaching job is a C TET certificate. Private Institutions prefer giving reference to C TET qualified teachers in recruitments. Unions are likely to consider C TET qualified candidates for contractual or regular teacher recruitment.

In order to achieve the Rights of children to free and compulsory education act, tests like C TET are conducted to ensure that those entering the field and those in the field meet the standards set by the ministry. The rationale of having this test is to induce improved performance in schools and have a positive feedback to the stakeholder in the education sector. It is also meant to aid the government in improving the standards of education and lastly provide a standard national recruitment process for teachers. Other professions have similar testing like films and mass communication, medicine, aviation, art, law, and hospitality. This is to allow that professional is those field do not possess the educational requirements but are fully qualified by the regulatory bodies.
